Nightingale Foundation India stands committed to work for the welfare of nurses across the globe. The foundation constantly strives to maintain the dignity of the nursing community through activities aimed at ensuring safe working environment, better salaries, etc. NFI has fixed a premium on equipping nurses with skill set to make them competent in their vocation and helping them explore job avenues in India and abroad. These days, nurses are facing many a problem at workplace and in the society. Harassment (including sexual), exploitation, humiliation, etc. from different quarters are putting a roadblock before nurses while they attempt to cover career milestones. The foundation is to have a broad perspective of nurses’ problems and to enhance the responsiveness to their troubles in their own field.
NFI has been working to improve the social, economic, political and legal strength of the women, to ensure equal-right to women, and to instil confidence in them to claim their rights. The foundation believes that eloquent speeches and evocative essays alone will not suffice to expedite interventions enabling empowerment of women; concrete actions reconceptualizing the status of too are the need of the hour.
Women's empowerment is the process wherein women seek to expand and recreate what they can become, perform, and achieve in a situation previously denied to them. Women can realign gender roles that allows for them to acquire the ability to choose between known alternatives which have otherwise been restricted to them.
NFI has formed coherent perspectives on conservation and preservation of the environment. The foundation seeks to generate awareness among people on the significance of environment protection; people are encouraged to discuss pertinent issues and remedial measures. The foundation has formulated a two pronged approach to help protect the environment: conservation and preservation.
Conservation is the sustainable use and management of natural resources, both renewable and non-renewable, like wildlife, water, air, and earth deposits. The conservation of renewable resources (like trees) entails ensuring that they are not consumed faster than they can be replaced. The conservation of non-renewable resources like fossil fuels involves ensuring that sufficient quantities are maintained for future generations to utilise.
Preservation is the maintenance of areas of earth in their present condition areas hitherto untouched by humans. This assumes significance against the backdrop of human encroachment on the environment at such an alarming rate that many virgin landscapes are being converted for farming, industry, housing, tourism and other human developments, and what is natural is getting shrunk on our planet.
