I am not a nurse, then, why I joined Nightingale Foundation India

Nightingale Foundation India is a non-profit organization, its members are connected by social relations and it performs a social role. The objective of the foundation can also be defined in terms of success of a society that works to socialize the groups or people in it. Common examples include government, family, economic system, educational institution,and any people or group working to meet individual or societal needs. Social work is a major sphere in the civilized world wherein one can organize activities to meet some human needs. As a citizen of this country every one has tremendous responsibility in their public sphere by helping each other, any individual can assist a group of people, and guide community to change themselves.

The present scenario of our country with focus on the healthcare sector, provokes me to participate in the programmes of this foundation. I have started thinking that the social role of any citizen of any country is to get involved in activities promoting welfare of people belonging to various societal and professional strata. Responsibility towards oneself requires the hard choice of taking responsibility for one’s actions and even for one’s thoughts. When I work for the welfare of the society, I am fulfilling the responsibility towards myself.

When thinking of public welfare, public health assumes great significance. A healthy society is made of healthy individuals and the healthcare sector has a very important role to play in improving the quality of life by way of prevention and cure of diseases. Here, caregivers perform a vital role through various nursing services. As nurses render their services with commitment and professionalism, we have to give back to the nursing community through our participation in programmes aimed at augmenting their welfare.

I am not a nurse myself, but I am very delighted to be part of Nightingale Foundation of India because, the foundation endeavours to better the lives of nurses, thereby creating value addition to the society.
